I have five computers at three different locations. What is the best way to connect them accross a high speed internet connection for accessing data and other information?

What exactly do you mean by ''different locations''. Do you mean different rooms, or different states? If you're in the same building, then the above solutions about building a network is what you should do. If you're talking about different offices, or office and home (which I think you are), then you have different options, largely depending on how much money you want to spend.



Option 1 is to connect them all with high speed internet connections and setup a VPN (virtual private network) between them to connect to a shared ''virtual'' network. A good way to do this for free is Hamachi, or you can have a vpn server and all your locations connect to that server.



Option 2 is to get a T1 or above private line running between all your locations, or from one location to all the other locations. Then, you treat this like a normal network connection, and just connect them up. This is a more expensive option, and is largely dependent on the distance between the locations.



Option 3 is to get ''dark fiber'', which is essentially an unused fiber optic line, that runs between all your locations. This is the most expensive option, and isn't available in all areas.
