Can I play the sims 2 on my computer? Should I switch my computers or should I juice it up a little?

I just got a new computer and well lets face it, it is very slow and it is not even hooked up to the internet. I am thinking about having someone take a look at it and it holds A LOT of stuff but I don't know if it can hold the sims (whole point of having it). It was a gift. And the lady who gave it to me cleaned off everything and may be thats why it is slow but It has:

256 MB DDR SDRAM

1.80 GHZ

80 GB Hard drive

while the one I am using has:

512 MB DDR SDRAM

1.80 GHZ

100 GB Hard Drive.

Now can it hold it? If not, should I switch computers and use that one for school and this one for sims 2 or can I get someone to look a it and juice it up a little? Please help!!!!

I don't think you will be able to play on the 256 RAM computer.. or maybe yes but very slow. A graphics card would help a lot, but not on the 256 RAM one. A little more ram should help more than a video card in that case.

well it depends on what graphics card you have. if you are using onboard graphics, then it is unnlikely you will be able to get a decent framerate so don't expect to be able to have great quality, but if you tone everything down, youll be able to make it work well and not stutter too much and after all, its the gameplay that's important, right?
well it really depends on the graphics card. and i recommend the one with more memory, you should upgrad it to 1GB memory.
